Isaiah Washington has landed his first big film role after his bitter departure from medical show Grey's Anatomy last year after he antagonised co-stars by using homophobic slurs.

The Hollywood Reporter says Washington will star opposite Forest Whitaker in Patriots, a drama set in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina about a coach who puts together a championship high school basketball team.
