The Federal Reserve has opened a cash processing facility in Renton to replace an office in Seattle. It processes more than $1 billion a month in bills and coins. The office that opened Monday has several levels of security, including armed guards. It uses armored trucks to ship cash to banks and credit unions. It takes worn bills out of circulation. The Renton facility was built at a cost of $53 million. It plans public tours this fall. Copyright © 2008 The Seattle Times Company
