When it comes to taekwondo, it will be Lopez, Lopez and Lopez at the Beijing Olympics.

Steven Lopez has been waiting for his brother Mark and sister Diana to join him on his flight to Beijing in August, and when the duo won their weight classes at the Olympic Trials event in Des Moines over the weekend.

For her efforts, defeating 2004 Olympic silver medalist Nia Abdallah in the featherweight championship bout, Diana Lopez earns USA TODAY's Olympic Athlete of the Week award.

Mark Lopez held off his training partner Chris Martinez 3-2 to earn his spot on the team.

The trio will be coached by another Lopez, eldest brother Jean, in Beijing.

"It wouldn't have completed the dream I had going into this Olympic Games (if one of them hadn't made the team)," Stephen Lopez told the Des Moines Register on Sunday.

While the Lopez siblings were busy competing in Iowa, a host of American swimmers with Olympic aspirations were in the pool just a few states away at the Toyota Grand Prix in Columbus, Ohio.

While Michael Phelps grabbed headlines by sleeping through his preliminary heat start time in the 400-meter freestyle, it was Katie Hoff who continued to impress with four gold medals at the event, taking the 800 free, 100 fly, 400 IM and 100 free.

Despite his alarm clock troubles, Phelps did pick up a few medals, winning golds in the 100 fly, 200 free and 400 IM.

There are eight meets in the Grand Prix series with the points leader earning a $20,000 bonus at the end of the season. Phelps currently leads with 64 points while Hoff and Kaitlin Sandeno are in second and third place with 48 and 44 points.

On dry land, a pair of American soccer players, Abby Wambach and Natasha Kai, made a case for inclusion during the preliminary games of the CONCACAF women's Olympic qualifying tournament. Through two games in group play, Wambach scored four goals and Kai tallied twice. Depending on the tournament outcome, one of those women may snag this award next week.
