The event was a benefit for the Point Foundation, which offers scholarships to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students. It "is a phenomenal organization," Parker said.

At the dinner, her co-star, Nixon, was being honored with the 2008 Point Courage Award. "It was just a real honor to be considered a role model," Nixon said on the carpet. "The more I met these young people — it's just very inspiring to know that the Point Foundation is there for them."

Nixon is in a relationship with Christine Marinoni, the education activist she has been with since 2003, the year the actress split from longtime boyfriend Danny Mozes. Nixon and Mozes have two children, daughter Samantha, 11, and son Charles, 5.

It was clearly Nixon's night out. Though she wouldn't give away spoilers, she raved about making the sequel to the HBO series, which ended in 2004. "It was such a period in all our lives," Nixon said. "And we thought it was all over, and to go back to it was amazing."

The evening was a chance for Nixon, Parker, Davis and Cattrall to get a taste of the Sex and the City excitement before the sequel's promotional push. As reporters shouted and cameras snapped, Cattrall yelled out, "It's like we're filming in New York again!"

After arrivals, it was down to business at the event as Parker was tasked with presenting an award to media company Time Warner for its commitment to diversity in its workplace and coverage. "Being different is extremely special," she said before the dinner. "Being the same is not terribly interesting."

Ugly Betty's Judith Light, who sits on the board of the Point Foundation, echoed Parker's sentiment. "I've been different all my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way."
