LOS ANGELES Prosecutors in the trial of a Hollywood private eye have played what they say is a conversation he wiretapped in which the wife of a billionaire businessman reassures her brother-in-law that their affair won't be discovered.
Prosecutors say it's the only recording of a wiretapped call they will present to jurors during the trial of Anthony Pellicano and four co-defendants in the federal racketeering trial. On the tape played Wednesday, Lisa Gores and her husband's brother Tom Gores are heard talking about their meeting in 2001 at a hotel. Lisa Gores says she won't say anything about the meeting unless she is confronted. She assures Tom Gores that they could not be seen inside the room by anyone. Prosecutors believe the 64-year-old Pellicano bribed police officers and telephone company workers to collect information for clients to use against rivals in legal and other disputes. All the defendants have pleaded not guilty. Copyright 2008 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
