Everett Public Schools is hoping to construct a new $28 million building for the district's administrative and support-services departments. The district is looking for architects interested in designing a building on property it owns on Broadway Avenue, at the south end of Memorial Stadium near 41st Street in Everett. For more than two decades, the district has been trying to consolidate these departments into a single building. Currently, administrative services operate in three buildings — Colby Educational Center, the Longfellow Building and View Ridge Elementary. A spokeswoman for the district said the new building would be funded in ways other than bond or levy money, possibly by interest, rentals or sale of property. Mukilteo Mariner student wins contest A Mariner High School student's design has been selected as a new national logo for the Civilian Conservation Corps Legacy (CCCL) group. Junior Damascus Purnell's design was picked to help the organization celebrate the 75th anniversary of the start of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Purnell's design features a tree and his own motto, "A message of commitment and change." His logo will be used by the CCCL and also appears on commemorative coins celebrating the 75th anniversary, said Joan Sharpe, national president of the CCCL. The Civilian Conservation Corps is responsible for hundreds of state parks in America, including Deception Pass State Park. Copyright © 2008 The Seattle Times Company
