Police report a 92-year-old man was killed this afternoon in South Seattle when a speeding driver lost control of his vehicle, crashed into the man's car and tried to flee. The crash happened about 4:20 p.m. (on Rainier Avenue South and South Holly Street). Police say a 23-year-old man who was driving the other vehicle was arrested. A grandson identified the victim as South Seattle resident Salvatore Vito Covello. Police say Covello's 1996 Buick was hit on the driver's side by a black SUV that was "traveling at a high rate of speed and possibly fishtailing," killing Covello instantly. Police say the driver of the SUV ran away, but officers found and arrested him. Covello's grandson says the victim was killed while returning from an outing at a senior center.
