Two people have died in a head-on crash southeast of Yelm in Thurston County.

According to a Washington State Patrol report, a 1998 Mercedes driven by 49-year-old Daniel B. Hallock of Tacoma crossed the center line at a high rate of speed around a curve on Vail Road.

The car collided with a northbound 2007 Hyundai Elantra driven by 54-year-old Melanie C. Fisher of Yelm, and both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene late Tuesday night.

Two passengers in Hallock's car were hospitalized. Twenty-three-year-old Christopher D. Hunter of Yelm was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia and 17-year-old Jeannie M. Kortum was sent to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
